Marina is giving prison voices a platform in Cork. A university teacher, activist and scholar in the area of prison abolition and the rights of incarcerated people, Marina is organising a screening in Cork of The Strike - a feature documentary telling the story of the 2013 Pelican Bay hunger strike, the largest hunger strike in US prison history, and the incarcerated men who led it in protest of decades-long solitary confinement. Inspired in part by Bobby Sands and the IRA hunger strikers, the film is being brought on tour across Ireland with some of its creators and former strikers, alongside panel discussions with local voices. Marina is using the $500 to properly compensate Cork-based panelists with lived experience of prison for giving their time, insight and honesty to the event.
