Rehema is giving inmates in Arusha a chance to reconnect through an "Imaginary Call." As a social work student with a focus on human connection, she understands the longing inmates feel for family ties and unspoken words. With the $500, Rehema will create a soothing space in a prison equipped with old telephones that allow inmates to imagine conversations with loved ones they miss. Though the phones won't have actual line connections, this symbolic gesture offers prisoners a moment to voice their apologies, express their affections, and share personal hopes. Following these imaginary calls, they'll have the opportunity to write down poignant messages and reflections. The funds will cover the cost of old phones, setting up the environment, notebooks, pens, and collaboration with prison staff. Rehema's project whispers an important truth across prison walls: feelings matter, and speaking from the heart can be profoundly liberating.
