As a petty trader, housewife, teacher, and survivor who endured the isolation and stigma of obstetric fistula, Fatmata knows firsthand how devastating the condition can be. She was saved by a friend’s referral to the Aberdeen Women’s Hospital, and now she is determined to be a beacon for those still hidden and suffering. With $500, Fatmata will travel to five rural villages by motorbike and shared taxi, bringing illustrated leaflets in Krio and Mende that explain fistula, prevention, and treatment. She'll host community meetings with refreshments to signal dignity and safety, distribute hygiene kits, and ensure all referrals are followed through with phone calls. Fatmata’s mission transcends surgery—it’s about reshaping society’s views and removing the shame that binds women in silence. Her healed body will testify to the power of prevention and understanding.
