Starting her musical journey in Leeds, Mala pushed the boundaries of turntablism and DJing before creating GIRLBASS to empower young women in the DJ scene, a space where female representation is long overdue. With the $500, Mala will purchase critical DJ equipment like a DDJ FLX4 controller and Sony headphones, and fund graduation gifts for participants who complete the program. This will support an innovative six-week DJ Skills & Empowerment Program for girls aged 12-18, focusing on technical skills and confidence building, with an inspirational graduation showcase. Mala’s vision is to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community where young women can see themselves thrive in music and beyond, turning tables and stereotypes in the process.
