Growing up in a poverty-stricken village without essential services, John became a community activist using his sociologist training to fight for access to basic needs in rural areas. A painful personal experience with his son's illness exposed him to the invisible struggles of hospital caregivers, who often go hungry while tending to their sick children. With $500, John and his wife will prepare and deliver lunch packs that include rice, stew, snacks, bottled water, and handwritten love cards to about 50–75 families at the hospital.
