As a dedicated public health and community development professional from Homa Bay, he has witnessed the harsh cycle of poverty and exclusion that women in his community face, often exacerbated by HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence. With $500, Ronnie will purchase and distribute 10 modern beehives and a protective bee suit to a women's self-help group from his village in Lambwe Valley. These women, traditionally excluded from such income-generating activities due to a lack of capital, currently rely on illegal charcoal sales, which harm the environment and their health. By introducing them to sustainable beekeeping, Ronnie aims to empower them with a reliable source of income, enhanced food security, and a role in environmental conservation. Ronnie plans to combine his expertise with collaborative training to ensure the success of the initiative, timed meaningfully for World AIDS Day.
